Keeping Classic ASP Alive, Safely, Until You're Ready to Leave

Some systems are too critical to rewrite and too old to ignore. We keep them patched, monitored, and running on modern Windows, and we build the exit when the business is ready.

The way this stack usually breaks

These are the problems we keep seeing, in the order we usually meet them.

The original developer retired a decade ago

Classic ASP code is often the last trace of a stack the business has been running on autopilot. We document what exists before anything else.

SQL injection by default

String concatenation into ADODB queries, everywhere. We fix the injection points first, because they are the attack surface nobody is watching.

Modern servers do not want to run it

IIS 10 can still run Classic ASP, but with enough configuration traps to sink a migration. We know which ones bite and how to test for them.

No upgrade path on the roadmap

You are not going to rewrite a 20-year-old ERP in a weekend. We keep it running safely while you plan, and we can build the exit when you are ready.

From the field

A manufacturer's 22-year-old order desk

A mid-size manufacturer ran their order entry and invoicing on Classic ASP written in 2002, with a SQL Server behind it. We moved it onto current IIS, closed the SQL injection holes (there were 40+), put monitoring in place, and documented the business rules into a runbook. It now runs quietly while we rebuild the customer portal in Laravel, one module at a time. They get to choose when the old system retires, instead of a crash choosing for them.

Questions about Classic ASP Support

Can Classic ASP still run in production today?

Yes. IIS on Windows Server 2022 still supports it, and we keep several Classic ASP systems running for clients who need more runway. The catch is discipline: patching, backups, and a clear exit plan.

What is the realistic exit strategy?

Usually a phased reimplementation in PHP/Laravel or .NET, module by module, with the ASP system still handling the parts that are not ready. We have done this several times without interrupting billing or operations.

How fast can you stabilize an ASP system that was hacked?

If you are actively bleeding, we can be in within 4 hours. First we contain, then we fix the injection points, then we map what the attacker touched so you can report it properly.
